TESTIMONIAL: AN INTERVIEW WITH JOE MAGUIRE, “CONCRETE EVIDENCE CONSTRUCTION, INC.” PALOS VERDES, CA.

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT “ONSITE?”

“I wanted to make sure I didn’t get any Penalties while working in the Beach Cities I frequently do business in. (Manhattan, Hermosa, and Redondo Beach) So, I asked my Concrete Pump Service to look into it, and they bought one. I use them Exclusively, so I rent it while they are at my jobs, and I charge the cost back to my customers.

WHY DID YOU FEEL THE NEED TO USE IT?

“You always get different trades spilling into the streets, or washing tools into the gutters, and then we have to spend a Half-hour or more cleaning it (the mess) up, and I’m worried that the Neighbors may call the City on us for “dirtying-up” their streets.”

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN CITED, OR FINED FOR A DIRTY JOBSITE?

“I’ve come close, I’ve been warned a few times. Spent too many hours on cleanup, instead of my Customers. I have less to worry about with the ONSITE System”

DO YOU THINK SPILL CONTROL SHOULD BE USED BY OTHER TRADES?

“Yes, I feel that all the Sub-contractors that come to my jobs could use the ONSITE System, my Pool-plasterer, the Tile cutters,( with their wet-saws), Block wall and cement-masons too, just to keep the piles of sand and rock off the Driveway, I just built. Placing the Cement-Mixer inside one would make for a Cleaner Jobsite also. The Painting Contractor, who just had a spill the other day, and washed it down the street. I wish he had it too. He could store and mix inside (the ONSITE unit) and not make a mess.”

CAN YOU SEE SPILL CONTROL BEING AN ISSUE IN THE FUTURE?

“I can see it now. The City should make it Mandatory for any Pumper, or Concrete contractor to have it with every permit they get. You get fined for making the mess, but the city doesn’t tell you how to prevent it. The ONSITE unit is an advantage for me.

“How does ONSITE help you?”

Right from the start.  I don’t need to worry or watch what the Ready-Mix driver is doing.  If he spills, I don’t have to be concerned about cleanup until my crew is finished.  My crew is busy during the job, I don’t need to waste manpower on clean up when they are doing their job.

It also takes a lot of pressure off of me.  With ONSITE I can keep the job site clean, so I’m not having to answer to residents upset over some mess because there IS NO MESS! Being a good contractor also means having a good “working” relationship in the area I am working in.

So was this purchase “worth-it”?

Oh yeah, it was not only affordable; it was most definitely worth buying.  It only takes a minute to set up, and it keeps everyone comfortable knowing that my company is concerned enough about keeping the jobsite clean and the local inspectors happy by fact that another “EPA” (Environmental Protection Agency) code has been enforced.

Do you use ONSITE” often?

We don’t set-up a pour without it. We make sure this unit stays with our finishing and pump crew.  I also feel that I am doing my part in helping keep runoff out of the ocean. I mean, you don’t know who may be more concerned in the neighborhood, and report you for anything they feel may be hazardous or hurtful to the environment.  I’m just covering all our bases.  Besides, I take my kids to the beach and I really don’t want to answer to them about “beach closures”.
